Sadio Mane will return to Liverpool from international duty ahead of schedule.
Mane was part of the Senegal side which sealed its place at the World Cup finals with a play-off win over South Africa in Polokwane last Friday.
The Reds sent a club physio to oversee the winger’s fitness amid fears of a recurrence of the hamstring injury which sidelined him for the past four weeks.
Jurgen Klopp had hoped that Senegal would consider releasing Mane earlier in the event that they ensured qualification for next summer’s finals in Russia.
But the country’s Football Federation have announced that the player will return to Merseyside due to minor concerns about his previous injury.
“Following the match, South Africa against Senegal Friday, Nov. 10, 2017 in Polokwane, the player Sadio Mane slightly felt his old injury,” read a statement.
“After consultations between the medical staff of the national team of Senegal and Liverpool it was decided by mutual agreement to make him available to his club to continue treatment until full recovery.”
Mane made a surprise return to Liverpool action in their 4-1 win over West Ham, barely 48 hours after he had resumed full training for the first time.
