Liverpool FC to sign Chelsea striker for cut-price fee

Liverpool have agreed to sign Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke.

Solanke is yet to make a competitive appearance for the newly-crowned Premier League champions since graduating from their youth setup two years ago.

He also spent the 2015/16 campaign with Vitesse Arnhem, where he scored seven times in 25 outings, but is now set to leave Stamford Bridge.

The England under-21 international’s contract is set to expire this summer and Jurgen Klopp has won the race for his signature amid interest from several clubs.

Bundesliga runner-up RB Leipzig and Celtic, headed up by ex-Reds manager Brendan Rodgers, had both been in the running to land the promising forward.

A Premier League tribunal is set to determine the development fee that Liverpool will have to pay Chelsea for Solanke, who qualifies as an under-24 player.

Compensation is likely to stand at £3 million given the 19-year-old’s progress with the Londoners while his starting salary will be around £20,000 per week.

Klopp plans to integrate Solanke, who will join on July 1, into both Liverpool’s first-team and under-23 setups in efforts to improve the quality of the club’s youngsters.

It will mean that Solanke joins the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Woodburn in competing at dual levels over the forthcoming season.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have announced two fixtures in their pre-season schedule.

A friendly with Athletic Bilbao is set to take place at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on August 5, seven dahys before their new Premier League campaign kicks off.

Crystal Palace and either West Brom or Leicester City wil also provide the Anfield club’s opposition in the Asia Trophy between July 19 and 22 in Hong Kong.
