James Garner has finally committed his long-term future to Everton.
Garner’s existing deal at Hill Dickinson Stadium was originally due to expire at the end of the current campaign prior to Friday’s official announcement.
The midfielder has penned a fresh four-and-a-half-year deal until June 2030 which reflects his growing stature as one of the club’s consistent performers.
An ever-present starter for the Blues in all competitions this season, Garner also currently topping the Premier League charts for several in-game metrics.
They include 64 combined tackles, 32 interceptions and 27 key passes to help David Moyes’ side stay within touching distance of a European place.
Four points currently separate Everton from the top flight’s final Champions League spot while they are just three away from a Europa League position.
And Garner sees no reason why reviving those continental ambitions cannot be achieved during Moyes’ first full season at the helm since returning.
He said: “The aim this season is to get into Europe.
“That’s what us, as a club – and us as players and staff – should be aiming for. Nothing less.
“I think that’s very achievable, and that’s what we want for the next season and the seasons after that.
“I’m still only 24. I feel like I’ve been through a lot of experiences. I want to keep improving.
“I think the obvious one would be goals and assists, which is the one everyone wants to get better at.
“As well as that, I want to keep that overall consistency, and be a player who people can look to as a leader, setting the right examples.
“The manager has really trusted me – and what he asks of me to do on a game day, it suits exactly how I play.
“He’s been really important since he’s come in.”
