Everton have finally learned the date of their final game at Goodison Park.
The curtain is set to come down on 132 years of history for David Moyes’ side at their spiritual home next month with the visit of an already relegated Southampton.
A definitive date for the Blues’ emotional goodbye had remained subject to a prolonged delay due to the Premier League missing its own scheduling deadline.
The club’s Fan Advisory Board wrote to the Premier League and its flagship broadcasters in attempts to appeal for a reasonable time and date for the game.
It was finally confirmed on Thursday that the Saints’ visit to the Grand Old Lady will remain on Sunday, May 18 with TNT Sports screening the 12pm kick-off in the UK.
Shortly after the announcement, The 1878s urged fans to join them on Goodison Road for a final pre-match coach welcome for Moyes’ team.
“We are asking all Evertonians to join us for our last ever coach welcome at Goodison Park,” read a social media post from the group.
“Let’s make this the biggest welcome we have ever done, line the streets and have a party all day and give Goodison a send-off like no other.”
Everton are yet to confirm events around Goodison’s final goodbye but had applied for extended licensing provisions in anticipation of the game being a night fixture.
A filing with Liverpool City Council earlier this month requested that fans be allowed to purchase alcohol at the stadium for up to 90 minutes after the final whistle.
The application included an 11pm cut-off for sales with an 11.15pm curfew.
