Everton on brink of signing Brazil winger

Everton are on the brink of signing Bernard on a free transfer.

A host of European clubs had been tracking the Brazil international since his previous contract at Shakhtar Donetsk expired earlier this summer.

But the Blues edged ahead of AC Milan as well as Premier League rivals Chelsea and West Ham to move into the box seat for Bernard’s signature.

The winger, 25, is expected to finalise his move to Merseyside, subject to a work permit, on Tuesday as Marco Silva continues to shape his squad.

Bernard’s arrival will also pave the way for Yannick Bolasie to depart Goodison Park, with former club Crystal Palace among those currently interested.

Silva remains in the market for another defender ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline with hopes of a deal for Barcelona’s Yerry Mina still very much alive.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas attempted to shoot down reports which claimed that Mina had agreed to join Everton ahead of the Ligue 1 side.

“I don’t think that information is accurate,” he insisted.

”Yerry is still very interested in l’OL. We also want him to come to Lyon so he can play the Champions League.”
