Everton forward Martin Sherif has been fined for breaching betting regulations.

Sherif was charged by the Football Association in August over the causing, permitting or enabling of 61 bets placed on matches over a 15-month period.

The former Netherlands youth international stood accused of his involvement between November 2024 and February 2026 despite not placing bets directly.

An independent regulatory commission found six separate accounts in Sherif’s name which put a total of £1,974.77 on bets and incurred a loss of £435.75.

The 20-year-old, who has yet to make a senior appearance for the Blues, admitted the charge which led to an eventual £5,000 fine for his role in the disciplinary case.

Due to Sherif’s young age and admission of guilt, the FA’s panel believed that his conduct ‘did not warrant a sporting sanction’ when presiding over the matter.

He becomes the second Everton player to be fined related to gambling infractions after Yerry Mina was fined for endorsing a Colombian betting company in 2019.

The defender received a £10,000 penalty from English football’s governing body after appearing in a commercial that promoted the gaming firm in his homeland.
