A major new Beatles attraction will take over Liverpool’s iconic St Johns Beacon.
The city landmark has lain vacant since December 2024 when previous tenants Bauer Media moved its radio operations out of the tower after nearly 25 years.
It was formerly home to Radio City from the turn of the millennium but was rebranded as Hits Radio and later absorbed into its parent company’s national network.
Apple Corps confirmed on Tuesday (October 20) that the space once occupied by the defunct local station will now become the new home for The Beatles Story.
The award-winning visitor attraction is set to relocate from its home since 1990 at the Royal Albert Dock in 2028 to the new 100,000 sq ft site in the heart of the city.
A Yellow Submarine-themed viewing experience will form the centrepiece of its new location while the old St Johns Market will also be incorporated into the plans.
Immersive technology, original artefacts and spectacular reconstructed sets to bring the Beatles’ extraordinary story to life in a a multi-hour experience for visitors.
The plans have received the backing of both Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
“I love Liverpool. It’s part of who I am, it’s part of who The Beatles are,” said McCartney.
“If you’d told us this was going to happen when we were hanging out and getting started we’d never have believed it.
“The extraordinary plans the Apple Corps team have shown me for The Beatles Story take me right back to that journey, from Liverpool to the world and back home again.
“It couldn’t have happened without Liverpool and I can’t wait for people to be able to step into our story and share the experience.”
