Ronald Koeman gave Marcel Brands an inside track on what to expect at Everton.
Brands was appointed Goodison Park’s new director of football last month and began work last Friday, the day after Marco Silva had arrived as manager.
The 56-year-old joins the Blues with a burgeoning reputation after playing a key role in PSV Eindhoven’s three Eredivisie titles in the past four seasons.
Koeman, who was sacked as Everton manager last October, briefly worked alongside Brands during his time in charge of AZ Alkmaar back in 2009.
But the Holland coach spoke glowingly about his former club in talks with his compatriot.
“I spoke with him. He was very, very positive about the club and the things that he told me,” said Brands.
“I’ve only been here a few days now, it’s absolutely correct it’s a very family club with great ambition, great possibilities and I think we have to work on that.
“I was not surprised because he told me a lot of good things about the club.”
