Ronald Koeman has admitted he understands Mark Hughes’ frustration about Everton’s equaliser in their 1-1 draw with Stoke City.
The Blues had found themselves a goal down in the first half at the Bet365 Stadium after Peter Crouch had converted from close range.
They managed to level just before the break when Potters captain Ryan Shawcross inadvertently put the ball into his own net.
Originally the goal was disallowed, with an offside given against Romelu Lukaku, who had been stood behind Shawcross when the own goal was scored.
However, after consultation with his assistant Dave Bryan, referee Craig Pawson overruled the decision and allowed the goal to stand.
Following the game Stoke City boss Mark Hughes was adamant that should not have been the case and Koeman admitted he can understand his counterpart’s frustration.
He said: “I think the defender touches the ball and that makes it a goal.
“I can understand why Mark Hughes is frustrated about that goal. First, the linesman flagged for offside and then it’s a goal.
“It’s a very difficult situation for the referee because the linesman gave the offside. It’s clever from the referee to take a different decision.
“But I think after the game everyone knows 1-1 is a good result.”
