Police tackle three stabbings in 24 hours

Police have confirmed they dealt with three stabbings across Liverpool in the space of 24 hours.

Officers were first called to Weaver Street in Walton at around 11.30pm on Wednesday after reports that a man had been stabbed by three others.

The group subsequently made off from the scene towards Maria Road and were later claimed to have been seen driving away in a Volkswagen Polo.

A man in his 40s who had been the victim of the attack was taken to hospital after the incident but his injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

Police were again called to the area at 12.35am on Thursday after a teenager was found with stab wounds to his chest and arm inside a property on City Road.

Three men made off to the back of the property into the alley behind while their the victim, a 14-year-old boy, was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition.

A third attack was reported at 6.05pm on Thursday in Speke, where a man in his 20s was slashed across the face inside the David Lloyd leisure centre.

Detectives later arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder.

Sarah Rotherham, Merseyside Police’s Liverpool Local Policing Chief Inspector, said: “I know our communities will be concerned by recent incidents involving knives in Liverpool city centre, Walton and Speke and I want people to know that we remain committed to targeting those who choose to carry weapons on our streets and bringing them to justice.

“We know that feelings often run high when incidents like this happen and I would like to remind people to avoid speculating about the circumstances and allow our investigation teams to gather the necessary evidence to bring successful prosecutions.
