A man has been stabbed during a late-night attack in Liverpool city centre.
Police were called to Church Street at 8.55pm on Thursday after reports a 21-year-old had been found with body injuries consistent with a bladed weapon.
It is believed the victim was involved in an altercation with around seven young males before the incident occurred.
Emergency services attended the scene and the man was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher said: “This was a nasty attack that has left a man in a serious condition in hospital.
“The investigation is in the very early stages as we seek to establish what has happened in the lead up to this incident, but we believe there were around seven young males involved.

“Our officers remain relentless in our pursuit to remove any dangerous weapons from our streets and are actively working to make Merseyside a safer place to live and work.
