A new charity has been launched in memory of a Liverpool journalist.
Dan Kay, a long-serving Liverpool Echo sports reporter and Hillsborough campaigner, passed away in May last year at the age of 45.
Family, friends and former colleagues joined forces to raise £13,000 for several charities which were close to his heart following his untimely passing.
They included An Hour For Others, Imagine If Trust, Mind and Tough Talk as well as matchday foodbank collection charity Fans Supporting Foodbanks.
The Dan Kay Foundation has been set up to tackle the stigma around mental health while aiming to spread kindness and create opportunities for the less fortunate.
Amos Waldman, Dan’s cousin and a co-founder of the charity, said: “It is emotional and exciting to see The Dan Kay Foundation registered with the Charity Commission.
“It has been a privilege to work with so many amazing and talented people to who Dan meant so much over the last year or so.
“Together, as trustees and volunteers, we look forward to continuing Dan’s great work.
“We have some fantastic events and initiatives to announce in the near future which will make a real change to the communities and organisations Dan cared so deeply about.”
