Man shot at in Scotland Road targeted attack

Police are hunting a gunman who shot at a man outside a north Liverpool shop.

A report was received just before 9.40pm on Thursday that a 39-year-old man had been shot in the leg outside the Go Local shop on Scotland Road.

It is believed the gunman was a male, dressed in black clothing, who made off on foot in the direction of Woodstock Street.

The victim was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition. Detectives believe that he was the subject of a targeted attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Atkinson said: “This was clearly a reckless act which could have had fatal consequences.

“I appreciate for people living locally this is concerning but there is a continued police presence in the area and I would encourage anyone with any concerns to speak to officers.

“We are carrying out a number of lines of enquiry and CCTV and witness checks are being conducted and we are continuing to appeal to anyone who was in the area of Scotland Road from 9.30pm onwards last night and witnessed the incident, or has information which could assist with our investigation, to get in touch.

“There is no place for guns on the streets of Merseyside and we want the public’s help in identifying the people who choose to carry or use guns and putting them behind bars.”
