A person has died after being hit by a train on a Merseyrail route.
Rail staff first reported a disruption on the Southport and Hunts Cross line between Moorfields and Formby shortly before 4pm on Tuesday.
Emergency services were called to the scene between Hall Road and Southport but the person was sadly pronounced dead despite their efforts.
The line was temporarily closed while first responders carried out work safely with rail replacement buses were put in operation following cancellations.
“Officers were called to the line near Formby at 3.50pm today (22 August) following reports of a casualty on the line,” confirmed a British Transport Police spokesperson.
“Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
