Legendary Liverpool busker passes away

Tributes are pouring in following the death of a Liverpool city centre busker.

Peter Mickle performed under the name P.M. Rocky outside Boots on Church Street and outside Asda in Birkenhead with his trademark plastic microphone.

Relatives of the Birkenhead native confirmed via social media on Monday that he had sadly passed away, leading to tributes from people across the city.

On Facebook, his nephew Lee Casey said: “RIP Uncle Peter. Hope you are entertaining everyone up there already. You were a harmless, lovely, funny soul and you will be missed by so many people.”

He added: “You certainly lived your live to the full uncle Peter.” The news has prompted a huge outpouring of sadness and love for a man who became an icon of Liverpool with his distinctive, colourful suits and his memorable musical performances that often included a plastic microphone and a guitar.”

Away from his street performance, the 64-year-old was a popular regular at the Charles Thompson’s Mission breakfast club, held in his native Birkenhead.

Volunteer Donna Scully said: “Peter had been coming to the mission for about 25 years, but he had been a regular at our breakfast club for about six years now.

“We would always laugh and cheer when he walked in because we never knew what he would be wearing – he had a great sense of humour and was always the centre of attention when he came in.”
