Man escapes arrest to stage 90-minute Liverpool rooftop stand-off

A man who avoided to stage a 90-minute long stand-off from the roof of a Liverpool pub has been detained by police.

The area surrounding the Blarney Stone pub on Renshaw Street was sealed off just after 6:30pm on Sunday evening following reports that a man was clinging to the chimney.

The man was initially detained by police officers inside Rizzo’s off-licence on Mount Pleasant, story before evading custody.

Despite attempts to the diffuse the situation, he refused to come down and threw slates off the roof as crowds of people gathered to watch.

Witnesses at the scene told reporters that he was eventually persuaded to make his way off the roof at around 8.10pm, before being taken to a local police station in the back of a van.

A statement from Merseyside Police read: “The force will now review this incident to examine how the man came to escape from police custody.

“Officers would like to thank the local community for their patience.”
