Adelphi owners face court over hotel death

The Adelphi Hotel’s owners are being taken to court over a woman’s death.

Liverpool City Council have initiated legal proceedings against the city centre venue’s operators Britannia Hotels after Chloe Haynes was found dead in her room.

Three men were arrested on suspicion of murder after the 21-year-old was discovered trapped under a heavy wardrobe at the Lime Street hotel.

But the trio were late4r released without charge after police concluded that Ms Haynes’ untimely passing in September 2022 had been accidental.

An investigation by the council’s Environmental Health department was launched following the investigation and uncovered alleged health and safety breaches.

Britannia Hotels confirmed on Wednesday (April 15) that it had been notified of the prosecution, which is expected to start at the city’s Magistrates Court on May 7.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm that Liverpool City Council has initiated legal proceedings in relation to the Adelphi Hotel and we are fully cooperating with the legal process.

“Our sympathies remain with the families and loved ones of those involved.

“As this matter is now before the courts, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time.”
