A scientifically unproven homeopathy treatment worth in the region of £30, nurse 000-a-year is set to be cut by Liverpool NHS service chiefs.
The alternative therapy, which the NHS claims has no scientific justification, is a taxpayer-funded programme that uses a series of diluted chemicals as a base to treat minor conditions and ailments.
Opposition to the treatment in the city is strong, with a recent survey finding that an overwhelming majority of 73% of people wanted to stop NHS homeopathy funding in Liverpool.
And Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have announced that a report will be presented to their governing body before making any decision on whether to axe the controversial treament.
A spokesman for CCG said: “A report will be presented to the CCG governing body with recommendations informed by the public consultation and a decision on the future commissioning of an NHS-funded homeopathy service in the city will be made.”
