Merseyrail facing three-day strike shutdown

Merseyrail’s entire network will be shut down for three days next week.

The transport operator has confirmed that no trains will be operating on June 23, 23 and 25, when staff are preparing to walk out as part of a strike.

Although Merseyrail staff are not taking part in industrial action by members of the RMT, Network Rail signal and maintenance worker are participating.

No rail replacement buses are set to be offered on the days directly affected by the strike, which rail chiefs believe will still have a knock-on effect.

Replacement buses will be used for the first morning services on June 22 and 24 with trains running normal services from 7am across the region’s network.

Annual and monthly season ticket holders will receive the value of a day’s travel for each date affected, with full details available on Merseyrail’s website in due course.

Andy Heath, Merseyrail’s managing director, said: “It is very disappointing that we will be unable to provide a rail service to the people of the Liverpool City Region on the 21 ,23 and 25 June, because of three days of industrial action by some Network Rail staff.

“Our network is unable to function without the support of Network Rail signalling and maintenance staff who play a critical role in the safe operation of our train services.

“We share the frustration of our passengers regarding the disruption and inconvenience this will undoubtedly cause.”
