The Liverpool City Region’s Metro Mayor has pledged his pay rise to charities.
Steve Rotheram will see his annual salary increase by over £3,000 after the combined authority’s recommendation for his ‘high profile and impactful role’.
The pay rise is set to cover the next two years of the former Labour MP’s tenure in line with the National Joint Council agreement for local government workers.
However Mr Rotheram insisted on Friday that he would donate the planned remuneration to charities and worthy causes based within the City Region.
“I don’t set my own pay – it’s independently determined – but I can decide whether or not to accept this rise,” he wrote on Twitter.
“To be clear: I have no intention of taking more than I am currently on and I’ll be donating this to local charities and good causes.”
