PM joins police on Liverpool drugs raid

The Prime Minister joined police on a series of dawn raids across Liverpool.

Boris Johnson was in the city to promote the government’s new 10-year strategy for clamping down on gangs and other drug-related crime.

£300 million is set to be invested nationwide to tackle County Lines operations which could lead to culprits’ passports and driving licences being confiscated.

Johnson’s ride-along with Merseyside Police saw two arrests after warrants were executed on properties in the Kirkdale and Anfield areas on Monday.

Speaking after the Tory leader outlined his determination to curb the growing number of County Lines gangs, with over 2,000 now reportedly in operation.

“Drugs are a scourge on our society, fuelling violence on our streets, which communities across the country are forced to endure,” said Johnson.

“That’s why, to cut crime and truly level up across the country, we must step up efforts to wipe out the vile county lines gangs who are blighting our neighbourhoods, exploiting children and ruining lives.

“Backed by record investment, the strategy we’re setting out today will attack supply and break the county lines model, which sees criminals profit from people’s misery.

“Those who break the law will have nowhere to hide.”
