Man dies following Knotty Ash wall collision

A man has died after an early-morning road crash in Knotty Ash.

Police received reports that a car had collided with a wall on Pilch Lane at the roundabout with East Prescot Road at around 4.50am on Sunday, October 10.

It was reported that the vehicle was on fire.

Emergency services attended the scene and extinguished the blaze, which saw a man and a woman suffering serious injuries during the incident.

Both were taken to hospital but the man in his 20s sadly died from his injuries.

A 25-year-old woman remains in hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries and has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Officers remain in the area while extensive forensic, CCTV, witness and house-to-house enquiries are carried out.

Roads Policing Inspector Stuart McIver said: “We’d ask that anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on dashcam or other devices and has yet to come forward does so as soon as possible. Your information could be vital to our investigation.

“Whether you come to us directly or anonymously, through Crimestoppers, all information will be acted upon.”
