Six years for man behind Anthony Condron’s killing

A man has been jailed for six years over his role in Anthony Condron’s death.

Paul Byrne was handed the sentence at Liverpool Crown Court after admitting manslaughter over the 29-year-old’s fatal wounding at Maya nightclub.

Byrne also admitted to inflicting grievous bodily harm on a second man during the incident which saw Mr Condron fatally wounded on February 3 this year.

The court heard that the 23-year-old from Mossley Hill punched Mr Condron twice in the popular Wood Street bar in an attack which lasted 10 seconds.

In sentencing, Judge Clement Goldstone condemned Byrne’s refusal to tell either police or the court the motivation for his attack on Mr Condron.

He said: “What caused it, what led to it, remains a mystery.

“You have not sought either in interview or in the course of mitigation to explain.

“For some reason known only to you you took against Anthony Condron and his friends.”

Byrne will serve half of the six-year sentence behind bars while any time spent on remand will also be taken into consideration.

Two other men, Jamie Addison and Joseph Booth, had also stood accused of manslaughter were acquitted of the charges by a jury last month.
