Police have named the man shot dead outside a Wavertree chip shop as Aaron Lewis.
The 26-year-old suffered fatal gun shot wounds outside Anna Jungs chip shop on Grosvenor Road in the area shortly after 7pm on Wednesday night.
A 19-year-old also suffered injuries during the incident and took himself to hospital, where his condition is not described as life threatening.
Detectives have confirmed that Lewis, believed to be the son of former world champion kickboxer Alfie Lewis, was known to Merseyside Police.
His death is the second shooting to take place in Liverpool in the space of five days following Thomas Baker’s killing outside the city’s Meat Market last Friday.
Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson has vowed that efforts are being stepped up to ensure that the city’s streets remain safe despite the recent spate of gun violence.
He said: “I know that the Police and Crime Commissioner and the chief constable are doing everything they possibly can to make sure that they’re using intelligence and all their resources to ensure that we are safe.
“I can reassure people that the police are on top of this and they are using their intelligence and they are doing as much as they possibly can.
“And I would urge members of the public that if they have got any information, if they know any information they think might be useful, please pass that on to the police.”
