Changes to Liverpool bus network take effect

Changes have been made to the Liverpool bus network as part of recent reviews to improve the service across the region.

In light of the recent reviews to the service, a new route connecting the north of Sefton Park to Liverpool One with a new number four service.

Also added is a commercially run 165 service along Bowring Park Road from Rocky Lane to Queens Drive. A new 3, 3A and 3B extended service has been added between Halewood and Huyton.

Finally, the 174 service to Woolton Hill Road has been revised while the C4/5 circular and 101 services that were supported by Merseytravel have been withdrawn.

The withdrawal of the C4/5 circular will be compensated by the new number four route, which will cover most of the route that the C4/5 followed, with the 10A connecting passengers the rest of the way.

The 101 service was removed on Sunday but Liverpool City Council are currently in negotiations over a ptoentially revised service using alternative funding sources.

As part of the review conducted by Bus Alliance, which consists of Merseytravel, Arriva and Stagecoach, these are the first changes to come as a result of the recent findings.

Cllr Liam Robinson, chair of The Combined Authority Transport Committee, which oversees the work of Merseytravel said: “The review of the Liverpool bus network has resulted in a number of changes which we believe will help to make a clearer, simple bus network for the city and in some areas, offers significant improvements.

“We’ve worked hard with operators to devise the new network and have listened to people who live and work in the city during the consultations, making some changes to our initial proposals as a result.

“This is another example of us working innovatively through the Bus Alliance to provide cost-effective services, at a time when some areas outside our City Region have communities left with no services at all.

“We do appreciate that some services have been removed and in some cases, people may have to walk slightly further to a bus stop or make a connection to complete their journeys.

“But where possible we’ve ensured that everyone can access bus services while working within budget constraints due to government spending cuts.”

While the Alliance thrives to continue to provide an affordable and accessible service to commuters, they hope more bus services will join them in the future.
