Everton have made their best-ever start to a Premier League campaign which has left Toffees fans excited about what manager Carlo Ancelotti can deliver this season.
The Italian was backed by the club in the summer transfer window and he was able to bring in some real quality to Goodison Park. Here is a look at the pick of Everton’s new signings and how they can help deliver success to the club.
Ben Godfrey
It was always going to be crucial for Ancelotti to add an extra central defender to his squad in the summer and he left it late in the window to secure the services of Ben Godfrey from Norwich.
The 22-year-old is a bright young talent and has already featured in the Premier League on 33 occasions. With Championship odds of 23/10, Norwich are amongst the favourites for promotion this season, however, Godfrey wanted an immediate return to the top-flight and he now has that with Everton.
If required, the Englishman can also play at right-back and in midfield, so he brings some versatility to Ancelotti’s squad. For an initial fee of £20 million, it could end up being smart business as his value will build up considerably if he continues to develop.
James Rodriguez
This could simply be one of the best signings Everton have ever made in the history of the football club. The early signs all point to that.
Rodriguez is a superstar, as we saw at the 2014 World Cup where he was one of the standout players from the tournament. Unfortunately for the Colombian, he fell out of favour at Real Madrid.
Ancelotti is the key reason as to why Everton were able to beat a number of major European clubs for his signature. The pair worked together when the Italian was in charge of the Spanish giants between 2013-2015.
The quality we have seen already from Rodriguez suggests he is in with a real chance of winning the PFA Player of the Year Award. It has been a long time since an Everton player was in the conversation for that trophy.
Allan
Another player Ancelotti knows very well is Brazilian midfielder Allan who joined the club from Napoli. The new Everton number six was considered to be one of the best players in his position in Serie A where he played under the Toffees’ boss between 2018 and 2019.
Allan helped Napoli win the Coppa Italia last season, the club’s first trophy in six years. After five seasons at the Italian club, the 29-year-old wanted a new challenge in his career.
The former Napoli man will add some steel to Everton’s midfield. As a Brazil international, he also has a lot of experience in the game, so the challenge English football presents should not be a problem for him.
With Allan now in their squad, Everton have one of the strongest midfields in the whole division. It is balanced and has the quality needed to do well in the Premier League.
There is a long way left in the campaign, however, Everton fans have every right to start dreaming about what the future could hold
