Can Liverpool take that extra step?

The 19/20 Premier League season has finally arrived. Despite being one of England’s most successful teams in history, Liverpool are still yet to have a Premier League title to their name.

This season could finally change that. With Klopp firmly at the helm and additions to an already strong squad, Liverpool are likely to see some great results. Their 4-1 victory against Norwich City in the opener is hopefully just a taste of what is to come.

In their latest transfers, Liverpool welcomed experienced goalkeeper Adrián San Miguel del Castillo as well as future star Sepp Van de Berg, a young central defender from Dutch team PEC Zwolle. We also saw the temporary departure of right winger Harry Wilson, who has been loaned to Bournemouth for a fee of £2.4 million.

And while technically not a new arrival, the return of previously injured Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain bolsters the squad and will add another dimension to Liverpool’s midfield trio.

The latest Premier League predictions suggest that Liverpool’s chances of victory are high this season.

Adrián’s arrival prevents goalkeeper crisis

After his contract expired at West Ham, Adrián was offered a contract to join Liverpool, the goalkeeper made a surprise debut in the opening game on Friday 9 August following Alisson’s calf injury.

Simon Mignolet exited earlier this month, while Kamil Gabara has been loaned to Huddersfield until the end of the season and Loris Karius remains on loan to Besiktas. This means that Liverpool have limited options for who to play in goal. However, having played in over 150 games in his 6 years with the Hammers, the 32 year old player is experienced and motivated to bring the Premier League title to Anfield.

Although Adrián was bought in as deputy, with Alisson expected to be out of the game for a number of weeks, the new goalkeeper will have some big gloves to fill. He was first choice for West Ham during the first half of his contract, before being overshadowed by Darren Randolf and Joe Hart.

His Premier League experience will be vital in helping the Reds secure the trophy this season.

Key player Oxlade-Chamberlain returns

After being kept out of most of last season due to his injury, the 25 year old player will be more than keen to prove his worth in this year’s Premier League. The attacking midfielder has been out of the game for over 10 months, but with intensive training he hopes to be fit enough to play first team once again this season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is a welcome return to the midfield trio, he will not hesitate to take the ball forward at every opportunity. His energy and confident approach should see him contribute some goals in the games ahead.

Liverpool’s last League title is a distant memory for fans who were around to see it, however having come so close to victory in last year’s Premier League, they are more motivated than ever to take home the trophy. With such a strong, but not unexpected, start in their game against Norwich City on Friday, the team have already shown that they mean business this season.
