Liverpool businesses help beat January blues

Several Liverpool businesses have come together to beat the January blues.

The Business Improvement District organised ‘Yellow Monday’ in response to January 19 being labelled the most depressing day of this calendar year.

Partners across the city including Liverpool One, Metquarter, Royal Albert Dock and Merseyrail took part in the day of offers and activities designed to bring joy and calm.

Running from early morning until evening, the day is packed with ideas to make a cold, wet January feel a little brighter for people in and around the city centre.

Employess in the business community were gifted bouquets of flowers while commuters passing by Liverpool One were given free tuplis alongside upbeat music, surprise goodies and free tasty treats on Paradise Street.

Performer Lucy Starr serenaded commuters at Moorfields Station to make the morning commute a little brighter while Merseyrail launched a ticket giveaway.

At the Albert Dock, visitors could pick up £100 in vouchers to spend at the waterfront attraction’s various outlets hidden in the inner quay area.

Chloe Gaughan, Marketing Manager, Liverpool BID, said: This is our third Yellow Monday and it’s become a highlight of what is traditionally a depressing month.

“This isn’t just about good PR, though. Mental health and wellbeing are vitally important in our city centre community.

“We have incorporated more activity to bring the community together, to remind people there are networks on hand who can help, and how to integrate movement and exercise into our daily routines.

“It’s a good way for us to set the best of intentions for 2026 and it’s been a great opportunity to unite the city in joy”.
