A Liverpool primary school will be closed for six days due to teacher strike action.
Staff at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Primary School in Mossley Hill are set to walk out in protest at planned educational reforms by the Archdiocese of Liverpool.
Under the proposals, the Archdiocese will take full control of almost 230 primary and secondary schools as well as several colleges within the Liverpool City Region.
All schools will be converted into academies under the jurisdiction of both the Archdiocese and its three trusts which are independent of local authority measures.
As part of the first wave of changes, St Anthony of Padua is set to be incorporated into one of two existing trusts, St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust.
Headteacher Holly Edwards confirmed to parents this week that the six-days strikes called by the National Education Union will commence on Friday (September 11).
Full school closures will also take place on successive midweeks, starting on September 15 to 16 followed by three days from September 23 until September 25.
Ms Edwards wrote: “As some of you may be aware, school have had ongoing communications from a trade union regarding a small number of issues that have been raised.
“The governing body and Archdiocese are attempting to work with the union in order to bring about a resolution.
“However, sadly we have now received notification that the union intends to move forward to strike action.
“While this is deeply disappointing and something we will continue to try and avoid, we respect that staff have the right to take this action.”
