Klopp’s Padel FC set to open Liverpool courts

Jurgen Klopp is behind plans to launch Padel courts in Liverpool.

Plans for a landmark development at the city’s Wavertree Sports Park have been submitted by a company founded by the ex-Liverpool manager and his son Marc.

Pegasus Group have submitted proposal on behalf of Padel FC for a 31,000 sq ft sustainable facility to provide six indoor and three sheltered open-to-outdoor courts.

A cafe, lounge areas, retail space and changing rooms are also included in the project which will incorporate solar panels, air source heating and EV charging points.

The Liverpool centre is in collaboration with retired footballer Bradley Orr and local businessman Carl Spellman to become Padel FC’s first facility outside of Berlin.

Community engagement has been central to the project with two consultation stages attracted strong levels of interest, with 98% of respondents supporting the plans.

If approved, the facility will be open seven days a week and provide a year-round, all-weather sporting destination for players of all ages and abilities.

Pegasus director Darren Muir said: “We have really enjoyed working with Padel FC to bring one of Europe’s fastest-growing sports to Liverpool.

“From advising on the tender process, to leading the pre-application engagement and preparation of the planning submission, it has been rewarding to help shape a scheme that makes efficient use of underutilised land while delivering genuine social, economic and environmental benefits for the city.”
