Ofsted chief inspector visits ‘outstanding’ rated nursery

Last Friday (5 January), children and staff from Busy Bees nursery at Bromborough welcomed Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Ofsted, Amanda Spielman and Ofsted Deputy Director for Early Education, Gill Jones.

Ms Spielman visited the nursery, which is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted following a presentation she gave at the Association of Science Education’s annual conference in Liverpool.

During the tour, nursery manager Nicky Conway and deputy manager Ray Stewart showed Ms Spielman and Ms Gill around the nursery, providing them with an opportunity to meet the team and see the care they provide to the children.

Amanda and Gill also took part in the children’s favourite activities and met a number of parents too; before they were presented with a framed drawing by one of the children.

Nicky Conway, nursery manager, said: “It was really great to welcome Amanda and Gill to Busy Bees Bromborough. It’s always special when the children get to showcase their learning and development. For our fantastic staff, they had the chance to demonstrate their enthusiasm and dedication for helping young children flourish. It was so much fun for everyone.”

Busy Bees was founded in 1983 by six teachers who wanted to make a difference in the Early Years sector after feeling frustrated with the lack of good quality, flexible care available for their own children. Marg Randles, now chief academic officer, and John Woodward, president and founder, along with their respective partners, sold their homes to afford their first nursery. They lived above the nursery for three years and had the most exciting period building their quality template.

Thirty-five years on, Marg and John are still at the helm to ensure that, throughout its growth, Busy Bees continues to deliver quality childcare to families across the UK and, more recently, on an international platform. In 2015, they both received OBEs for their services to children and families, and childcare and education.
