Mamadou Sakho’s hopes of reviving his Liverpool career have been dealt a fresh blow by Jurgen Klopp’s refusal to be drawn on the subject.
Sakho has spent the past few weeks in the club’s under-23 side after falling out of favour under Klopp and is set to miss out on a Reds recall tonight.
Liverpool are set to welcome Danny Ings back into the first-team fold for the EFL Cup visit of Tottenham following several months in the second string.
Others are also set to make the step up, with Marko Grujic, Kevin Stewart, Ovie Ejaria and Trent Alexander-Arnold all likely to feature against Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
But Klopp is expected to overlook Sakho again after issuing a non-committal response to a French journalist when asked about the defender’s future.
He said: “I hope you didn’t make the long journey here for this question because the answer is I’ve said everything about this already.
“You could have read it in English newspapers.
“I’ve said everything about this in my talk with Mama. There is nothing else to say about it.
“Maybe it’s my English, you can try again but the answer is the same. There is nothing to say.”
Sakho last made a first-team appearance in April, prior to his suspension by UEFA over a failed drug test for which he was subsequently cleared.
The 26-year-old was then sent home from Liverpool’s pre-season tour of America for multiple breaches of club rules and then refused to go out on loan.
He broke his silence on an imposed first-team exile at Anfield last month during an early-morning outburst on social media platform Snapchat.
