Mignolet in line for Liverpool FC return but Karius still Klopp’s no.1

Jurgen Klopp plans to restore Simon Mignolet to Liverpool’s starting line-up tomorrow but Loris Karius remains his first-choice goalkeeper.

Mignolet last featured for the Reds during their 2-0 win over Chelsea last month and is in line to return to action for the EFL Cup visit of Tottenham.

But amid doubts over Karius’ abilities, with only two clean sheets from his opening five outings, Klopp has backed the 23-year-old to keep top spot.

He said: “His chance is at 100%, he has a good chance. That’s if nothing happens in training but he will play 100%.

“He is a real professional. We had a few talks because it’s not that I had the perfect answer.

“I can’t say, ‘You are bad, he is good, that’s why he’s playing’. That’s what I call a luxury problem, it’s no problem.

“You only have to make a decision and I made the decision. Of course he was not happy about this but he is a very serious person and a good professional.

“For us it’s the most comfortable situation I could imagine that we have these goalkeepers fit and in shape so that’s it.

“Everything is good from my side. He (Mignolet) is still not happy but nobody can see this.

“In training he is hard working, improving, all that he has to do and that’s all okay.”
