Klopp backs under-fire Karius to keep Liverpool FC top spot

Loris Karius has been backed by Jurgen Klopp to retain Liverpool’s number-one spot ahead of Saturday’s clash with West Brom.

Karius’ start to life at Anfield was curtailed by a pre-season injury while his return to action has been overshadowed by flaws in his game.

But as the Reds prepare to take on Tony Pulis’ robust Baggies this weekend, Klopp remains confident in the former Mainz goalkeeper’s abilities.

He said: “It has been a very good start.

“We watched him for a long time especially the last two years in the Bundesliga. He was outstanding.

“He is still a young boy but this is something different. The Premier League is a different style of play generally.

“But I feel quite comfortable. It is not perfect. He can improve.”
