Ex-Liverpool FC defender ‘fighting for his life’ after stroke

Former Liverpool defender Rigobert Song is fighting for his life after suffering a stroke.

Song was rushed to hospital in his native Cameroon on Sunday following a brain aneurysm.

The 40-year-old, also the uncle of ex-Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, is said to be in a critical condition due to the incident.

A number of Anfield icons, including Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher and Patrik Berger have offered their thoughts to their stricken former team mate.

Song made 35 appearances for the Reds between 1999 and 2000 before his career ended a decade later following spells with West Ham, Koln, Lens and Galatasaray.

During his time at Liverpool he won a gold medal as part of his country’s football side at the 2000 Olympics. More recently he became the national coach of Chad.
