treatment serif;”>With just a few days to go, visitors to this weekend’s Liverpool Food and Drink Festival will be able to experience the true taste of Japan when a pop-up sushi restaurant appears at the event for the very first time.
The festival which returns to Sefton Park, on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September attracted over 45,000 visitors in 2015 and organisers expect to beat this number this year by introducing a zoned site format and various new attractions plus guest appearance by Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain and celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo.
As one of the only large scale food festivals in the country to include a comprehensive number of hometown bars and restaurants, the event is loyally attended by city region food lovers who enjoy sampling dishes and menus of their favourite Liverpool eateries, who come together in one of the largest food courts in the North.
The festival introduced the Pop-Up concept several years ago and is one of the most popular draws over the weekend. Many of Liverpool’s top restaurants have previously decamped to the park for the weekend, setting up fully functioning dining rooms complete with waiting on staff, within a marquee.
This year will see Izakaya bring a sushi offer to the festival, showcasing its menu of classic sushi rolls, which include the delicious sounding Volcano Roll, made from Shrimp Cucumber and Caviar as well as Katsu and Ramen dishes.
With their Castle Street restaurant opening soon, Izakaya will also be serving two styles of Oysters, steamed Gyoza and Bao, plus a variety of Tempura dishes; Avocado with Lime, Broccoli with Mayonnaise and Karaage Chicken with Lime and Salt.
Izakaya takes its name from a compound word which originated from Sake shops in Japan, where customers could stay and drink, and the Pop-Up will feature table service as well as offering visitors sparkling wine and draught beer to accompany their food choices.
Speaking about the pop-up sushi restaurant at this year’s event, Festival Director Denise Harris commented:
“We really wanted to ring the changes this year with the Pop-Up restaurant. Over the years we’ve done a whole variety of different styles and genres, from Tapas to formal silver service, so when the team at Izakaya said they wanted to get involved we jumped at the chance!
We just love the idea of having an authentic Sushi restaurant right in the middle of Sefton Park, and the menu sounds positively mouthwatering – freshly prepared Sushi, Oysters and Tempura – it’s going to be a bit hit with visitors!”
