Sunderland fail in audacious bid for Liverpool FC’s Danny Ings

Liverpool will not allow Danny Ings to leave despite a late approach by Sunderland.

The England international remains on the comeback trail for the Reds after seeing his season was ended by a cruciate knee injury last October.

David Moyes had hoped that Ings’ lack of first-team action could be used to lure him to the Stadium of Light on loan before the transfer window closes this week.

However the former Burnley striker remains very much in Jurgen Klopp’s plans and is not among those earmarked for departure at Anfield this week.

Luis Alberto became the first player of what is expected to be a mass squad cull by the Liverpool manager before Wednesday’s transfer deadline.

The midfielder’s £4.2 million move to Lazio was swiftly followed by Andre Wisdom joining Austrian champions Red Bull Salsburg on a season-long loan.

Mario Balotelli, Lazar Markovic and Tiago Ilori are also expected to depart.
