Liverpool forward Mario Balotelli could be set for a return to Italy, as his time at Anfield appears to be nearing an end.
Balotelli, 25, returned for pre-season training with Liverpool in July, after a season-long loan at AC Milan, quickly stating that he was keen to make up for lost time at the club.
“I do not want to reach the end of my career with the regret of not doing everything I can to be the best”, said the confident Italian international.
However Reds boss Jurgen Klopp declined to give any assurances on Balotelli’s future, adding that a decision on the former Manchester City man would be made over the summer.
According to reports in Gazetta Dello Sport, Serie A side Chievo are interested in offering the former AC and Inter Milan forward a chance to resurrect his career, with Liverpool open to the move.
The Italian newspaper also claims that Chievo are still keen on the deal, despite Balotelli’s return of just one Serie A goal whilst on loan at the San Siro in 2015-16.
Balotelli, who has also netted just one Premier League during his Liverpool career, has not played during the pre-season campaign, and has spent time training with the U21 squad.
