Jurgen Klopp is aiming to make Max Meyer his sixth summer signing at Liverpool.
Fresh from securing the capture of Newcastle midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, the Reds manager has sounded out Schalke about Meyer’s availability.
According to reports in Germany claim, Klopp has approached the Bundesliga club about the creative midfielder with a view to a deal.
Bild claim that Liverpool are prepared to match their £25 million valuation of Wijnaldum in order to secure Meyer’s services.
The 20-year-old’s current contract at Schalke expires in 2018 but he revealed in March that he has no interest in leaving his home town club.
“I see no reason to leave the club”, he said at the time.
“Certainly in the past three years here had I have had as much experience as perhaps other players in 10 or 15 years.
“But if you go in as a young player with such a [strong mentality], then you can raise that. For me, that’s the case. I would not change that.”
