Artist sues Everton for copyright infringement

Everton are being sued for copyright infringement by a Liverpool artist.

Frank Green is taking legal action against the Premier League club over a giant reproduction of his artwork displayed outside Goodison Park without permission.

A drawing of St Domingo’s Church where the Blues were founded was incorporated into a wraparound canvas on the stadium’s exerior charting their history

The image, which the 83-year-old claims to have created in 1974, was removed in late 2025, shortly after the men’s team had relocated to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton Women have since replaced the graphic to reflect their own history since taking ownership of Goodison shortly after the senior team’s 133-year stay ended.

But Green claims that he had legally informed Everton officials of the intellectual property infraction just two months after he first became aware of it in August 2022.

A filing at the High Court in London states: “Notwithstanding said notification, the defendant knowingly and deliberately continued to display the defendant’s infringing images on the stadium until at the earliest May 2025 or the latest October 2025.”

Green is seeking financial redress of £10,000 per year with the figure for 2024 and 2025 rising to £15,000 for ‘additional damages’ based on the club’s conduct.

Both Everton and Green declined to comment on the legal proceedings.
