Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he is yet to make peace with last season’s Europa League final defeat.
A Daniel Sturridge strike saw the Reds on course for a fourth win in the competition after leading Sevilla at the interval in the Basel showpiece on May 11.
But a second-half strike back from the reigning holders saw Liverpool’s grip on the trophy slip as they ended a second final in the campaign as the losing side.
And Klopp has revealed that he is still haunted by the horror show Switzerland, over 70 days on.
He said: “Of course, I’ve had a lot of thoughts about this. It was long ago but it still feels bad. You have the moments when you still suffer a little bit.
“It was a hard night and a hard few days afterwards but it is in the past and like all games in the past if you can use them you should do. You have to take the right thoughts from it and that’s what we’ll try to do.
“But that’s not easy because you can’t bring all of this up in the first meeting and say (to the players) ‘look, I hope you had a wonderful holiday, but I want to tell you the second half in Basel was not so good’.
“That wouldn’t make sense. It’s an experience, one that you don’t need, but we will get on with it.”
