Liverpool City Council has apologised for incorrectly issued school parking fines.
The local authority rolled out restrictions in 2024 as part of its School Streets initiative in efforts to reduce traffic around primary and secondary schools.
Term time restrictions between drop-off and pick-up times of 8.15am to 9.15am and 2.30pm to 3.30pm are enforced using number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras.
But despite exemptions being made for residents on streets bordering schools and carers or Blue Badge holders, a number of fines have been wrongly issued.
Click Liverpool has seen evidence of motorists under exemption receiving multiple parking penalty notices, some running up to thousands of pounds from the council.
Although most of the incorrect fines were later rescinded, the council has now issued an apology to those caught up in their persistent administrative errors.
A spokesperson said: “We would like to apologise to residents who have incorrectly received a Penalty Charge Notice which suggested that they may be in breach of our School Streets restrictions.
“We have been, and are continuing to, take steps to ensure that this does not happen to anyone with a valid camera exemption in the future.”
