Liverpool are on the verge of completing a deal for Augsburg defender Ragnar Klavan.
Jurgen Klopp has turned to the Estonia captain in attempts to bolster the Reds’ back line options further following injury to Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez.
Klavan could become a Liverpool player within a matter of days after a deal of £4.1 million was agreed with Augsburg.
The 30-year-old spent four years with the Bundesliga club and is no stranger to Anfield after featuring in both legs of last season’s Europa League encounter between the sides.
Klopp, meanwhile, expects Joel Matip to recover from a recurring foot problem sustained during Sunday’s friendly win over Wigan Athletic.
Matip, a summer arrival from Schalke, appeared to be in discomfort as he left the field at the DW Stadium.
He said: “I hope it’s only a minor problem. It’s not too serious, hopefully.
“It’s the foot he had problems with in the past and then he had a little bit of pain when pre-season started because of the intensity.
“He said he’s had it one or two times already. He’s used to it. I think Monday he’ll rest, then he can go again.
“We had to make the decision of Joel or Dejan, who has to play the whole 90 minutes? We decided on Joel.
“For him it was a little bit too much [at Wigan], but he is in a good way, as you can see.”
