Liverpool FC face further wait for Mamadou Sakho doping verdict

Liverpool reportedly face an anxious wait to find out if Mamadou Sakho will be charged by UEFA over his alleged anti-doping violation.

Sakho was initially suspended by European football’s governing body in April after testing positive for a fat-burner after the Reds’ Europa League tie against Manchester United in March.

The suspension was extended by FIFA to cover world football-related activities which caused Sakho to miss the cut for France’s Euro 2016 squad as well as Liverpool’s Europa League final defeat to Sevilla.

The substance was brought in to question as to whether it should have been banned in the first place but according to ESPN, Sakho still has to wait several days for the outcome of UEFA’s hearing into the offence.

UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary board met in Paris on Thursday, during which the 26-year-old’s attempted to argue his case against any possible sanctions.

If found guilty, Sakho could be banned for between six months and two years for the offence.

The player’s advisors remain adamant that the fat burner should not be deemed an illegal substance.
