Liverpool are reportedly preparing a move for Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen.
Vermaelen’s career has struggled since leaving Arsenal for the Catalan giants in 2014, making just 11 appearances in La Liga during an injury-hit spell for the club.
But the 30-year-old is reportedly now back to full fitness and is considering his future at the Nou Camp.
Vermaelen has two years remaining on his current dealt but could consider options elsewhere.
Javier Mascherano, Gerard Pique and Jeremy Mathieu all remain ahead of the centre-back in Barcelona’s defensive pecking order while the impending arrival of Samuel Umtiti from Lyon has cast further doubt over his future.
Mundo Deportivo claim that Liverpool are willing to offer Vermaelen a chance to reignite his career in the Premier League with a £12 million bid.
Vermaelen’s English wife is also said to be an advocate of a move back to the English top flight.
The Reds will likely face competition for Vermaelen’s signature with Besiktas matching that valuation with the alternative offer of a season-long loan.
