Liverpool academy coach Rob Jones has suggested that Sergi Canos will leave the club imminently after an agreement for a new deal has failed.
Canos spent the 15/16 season on loan at Championship side, Brentford, where he scored seven goals in 37 appearances and made his Premier League debut against West Brom on the final day of the campaign.
According to Sky Sports, the 19-year-old’s run of form has led to bids of £2.5 million from Norwich City and Bristol City being accepted by Liverpool as the club has been able to come to terms on a new contract for the Spanish starlet.
Former Liverpool defender Rob Jones, who has worked as a coach at the club’s academy since 2013, took to Twitter to express his disappointment that the club could not make a deal.
He said: “A real shame we couldn’t come to a deal with Sergi Canos.
“A great talent, good luck Sergi.”
It seems however that the youngster is set for the exit door, with the Daily Star citing the reason being that the Reds refused to match Canos’ £10,000 a week wage demands.
