Liverpool FC trio set to miss pre-season preparations

Liverpool are set to be without Emre Can, Joe Allen and Danny Ward for their pre-season tour of North America.

Jurgen Klopp had hoped to have the trio back in time for the Reds’ participation in the International Champions Cup, which will see them play three Stateside games, but their respective runs in Euro 2016 have threatened to put paid to those plans.

Players reported back for pre-season training on Saturday but the Liverpool manager has afforded those participating at the finals in France a three-week lull between ending their international campaign and returning to Melwood.

Allen and Ward have both featured in Wales’ historic run to the semi-finals against Portugal while Can is in line to feature in Germany’s showdown with France as both Sami Khedira and Bastian Schweinsteiger remain injury doubts for the clash.

Should the world champions overcome the host nation on Thursday, the former Bayern Munich player will not return to Liverpool training until the beginning of August.

In the event of Wales slumping to Portugal, Allen and Ward are expected to return at the end of July which will see them miss the clash with Chelsea in Pasadena and unlikely to feature in the encounter with AC Milan, just three days later, in Santa Clara.
