Liverpool’s long-standing head of physio Chris Morgan has become the latest casualty of Jurgen Klopp’s summer backroom shake-up.
Morgan, a popular figure with the Reds players, joined the club in 2005 and has played a major part in nursing a number of key players, including Jordan Henderson and Emre Can, back to full fitness during his time at Anfield.
But Klopp, who replaced Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool manager in October, is keen to bring in his own medical team to meet his very specific needs, with the Morgan’s departure confirmed by the club on Friday morning.
“Chris is someone who commands the professional respect and personal warmth of the first-team players and all his colleagues at Melwood,” read a club statement.
“The dedication and commitment he has shown to Liverpool, over a long period, has been immense. His expertise and experience has rightly gained him industry-wide recognition.
“We thank Chris for his considerable contribution and everyone at the club wishes him success for the future.”
The German has already started the overhaul of the medical department by attracting two members of Bayern Munich’s famed medical and sports science team.
Fitness coach Andreas Kornmayer will be joined by nutritionist Mona Nemmer as part of the new-look Reds medical department for the 2016-17 season.
A replacement for Morgan is expected to be in place before the start of pre-season training in the first week of July.
