Loris Karius is in line to complete his £4.7 million move from Mainz to Liverpool early next week.
The former Manchester City youth player has shone for the Bundesliga club this season, with the surprise packages clinching a place in next season’s Europa League off the back of his impressive performances.
And with Reds manager Jurgen Klopp urgently on the lookout for a replacement for the erratic Simon Mignolet, the former Borussia Dortmund boss has dipped back into the Bundesliga in an attempt to find a solution to the troublesome number one position.
Arsenal and Everton have also been linked with a move for the highly-rated Karius, who kept 10 clean sheets in 36 league games this campaign.
But Liverpool appear to have won the race to sign the coveted German, 22, and it is believed that talks over a move are in advanced stages, on course for completion as early as next week.
Karius will become Liverpool’s second signing of the summer transfer window, following the imminent arrival of Schalke defender Joel Matip on a free transfer.
