Roberto Firmino has welcomed speculation linking Mario Gotze with a move to Liverpool, insisting the German’s ‘incredible qualities’ would fit in well at Anfield.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is a known admirer of Gotze after coaching the 23-year-old during an immensely successful spell at former club Borussia Dortmund, and Klopp looks set to launch a bid to sign his former prodigy during the close season.
The highly-rated Bayern midfielder has made just 11 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side this season and could well leave the Bavarian giants over the summer in search of regular first-team football.
Dortmund and Premier League rivals Arsenal are also said to be in the running to sign the German World Cup winner.
And Firmino, who knows the Gotze well from his time playing for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, suggested that the German’s ‘class’ would be a welcome addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
“I know Gotze well from my time in Germany, when I played with Hoffenheim against Borussia Dortmund and Bayern,” Firmino told German media outlet Bild.
“He has incredible qualities in attack.
“He would fit in well with us, and he will surely help us with his class also.”
Speaking after Bayern’s final Bundesliga game of the season last weekend, Gotze admitted that he’s relaxed over his future, despite uncertainty over his role at Bayern next season.
“I am fairly relaxed.
“I am under contract until 2017. We have an important match next weekend. Those are two facts.”
“I can promise that I will give it my all next weekend,” Gotze said.
“I know that I still have a valid contract. We’ll see about the rest.”
